When the World Federation of ADHD gathered virtually for the 8th Annual ADHD World Congress, members learned about the feasibility and potential benefits of a multi-faceted lifestyle intervention for adults with ADHD from Winston Center Co-Founder Dr. Thomas Beck and Scientific Advisor Dr. Chantal Kerssens.
The annual event brings the field’s top researchers and scientists together to find ways to use scientific facts and clinical wisdom to create better outcomes for people with ADHD. This year’s event included presentations across 20 topics, including non-pharmacological treatment for adults, neuroimaging and substance use.
During the virtual poster presentation, Dr. Beck discussed an eight-week lifestyle intervention trial for adults with ADHD based on the Winston Protocol, a cutting-edge approach to treating ADHD that incorporates lifestyle changes with traditional counseling and medication management. Results showed a decline in ADHD symptoms, executive dysfunction and functional impairment, encouraging future research. Additional contributors included Wendy Popa, Hannah Fant, Gabee Deleo and Madelyn Parkey.
A child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist, Dr. Beck guides Winston Center’s approach to treatment, steering the organization’s vision as a preeminent, tech-forward clinic for treating attention and learning conditions. A member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, he also serves as a clinical instructor at the University of Washington’s Department of Psychiatry.
Dr. Kerssens is devoted to the accessibility and universal design of technology solutions. She has extensive experience in the digital health realm, having written and presented for more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and industry organizations.
